CANSA partners with Ultra Triathlon Series

Leading a healthy balanced lifestyle (http://www.cansa.org.za/adopt-a-balanced-lifestyle/) can be achieved by combining a wholesome nutritional programme with physical activity and regular exercise so during 2018 the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) will be partnering with the MiWay Ultra Triathlon series (https://ultratri.co.za/).

Entrants will be invited to participate under the CANSA Active (http://cansa-active.org.za/) banner in a bid to create awareness and promote an active balanced lifestyle that can lower the risk of cancer (http://www.cansa.org.za/reduce-your-cancer-risk/).

Sportspeople will be encouraged to initiate an online project and raise funds as part of their participation. CANSA is providing free sunscreen to all participants and supporters to stay SunSmart at the events (http://www.cansa.org.za/be-sunsmart/).

“CANSA is so excited to be a partner of this series,” says CANSA’s Head of Sustainability, Maria Scholtz.  “Staying active while having #FeelGoodFun goes a long way towards lowering the cancer risk.  By taking part, participants are being team players and helping our CANSA Care Centres in various towns and communities to carry on providing care and support programmes to those affected by cancer.”

The 2018 MiWay Ultra Triathlon Series consists of four events at four venues in three Provinces from March to November 2018 and will see between 1 000 and 1 200 athletes taking part in each event as follows:

• 4 March – Durban Ultra (Durban Beachfront)
• 6 May –Sun City Ultra (Sun City Resort)
• 23 September – Cape Ultra (Theewaterskloof Dam)
• 25 November – Midlands Ultra – (Midmar Dam)

The annual MiWay Ultra Triathlon Series has grown enormously from one event at Midmar Dam in 2009 to four events across South Africa in 2016.  And now in 2018, a new dimension comes into play with the CANSA Active association.

The competitors of our endurance events are at risk through their prolonged exposure to the elements while competing and we look forward to providing a new service for our athletes. ABOUT ULTRA Triathlon Series (editor’s notes)

The ‘ULTRA Triathlon Series’ is currently the only national Ultra and Sprint distance triathlon Series on the African continent. We have events at Midmar Dam, Sun City, Western Cape and Durban.

Our Midlands Ultra Triathlon has been selected as South Africa’s Long Course championship event 5 times in the past 6 years and our Durban Ultra has already been selected as South African Long Course Triathlon Championships for 2018. This endorsement by Triathlon South Africa shows us that our Series is becoming one of the SA’s greatest long distance triathlon events.
